Dear Kindys:
Your first summer vacation has arrived. I hope you will spend a lot of time outside and enjoy nature and your family. But sometimes you might want to play on the computer. Therefore, I have found games for you that are not only fun but also teach you things. And guess what, they are in a software that you are already familiar with: Brainpop Jr. Game Up Remember to login with ad12stargate and starpass. The "Sortify" games might be quite suitable for kindergarteners, but you can pick whichever ones interest you. I hope to see you all in August when you are BIG first graders. I miss you! Ms. Stephenson Here we are on the last stretch of remote learning (keep your fingers crossed). At this point, I do not want introduce anything new, but reinforce last week's learning. Please go back into Brainpop Jr. This week, your child should find by herself the category HEALTH, then click on TEETH and then LOSING A TOOTH. S/he should first watch the video and then complete the easy quiz. Your student may then pick one more activity free of choice. Please help your child login to Brainpop Jr. Our username is: ad12stargate Password: starpass This video explains how to navigate this software. Go ahead and finish Typing Club Jr. and if your child is interested I can already enroll her into Typing Club for second grade. Wishing everyone a fun and healthy summer and let's hope we see each other in person in August! Greetings, Ms. Stephenson Dear Students:
You did it! Congratulations for finishing this trimester in remote learning format. That was new for almost everyone and if you completed the assignments, you can give yourself a pat on the back now. Well done! The last thing we have to do is check on your progress in Typing Club. Please go back into Google Classroom and look at the assignment. You are given 10 tries on the test; the test is open for the next two weeks, so spread it out if you do not immediately pass. When you pass, you are given a certificate! Typing Club is open for you all summer as well, should you decide to continue your practice and become a fiery typist. When you are done, you can always continue on the Tynker lessons in Google Classroom to learn more coding skills. Shoot me an email if you are interested in more advanced Tynker lessons. Also, please check IC and make sure you have nothing missing from before we began Remote Learning. Thank you and have a fantastic summer. I hope to see you all in person in August. Let's keep our fingers crossed and stay healthy. Miss you, Ms. Rita Stephenson Dear First Graders:
I hope everyone is healthy and doing well emotionally. Let's talk emotions. It is important to learn to recognize and vocalize our emotions. Everyone is going through ups and downs in these strange times including our young students. Please help your child login to Brainpop Jr. Our username is: ad12stargate Password: starpass This video explains how to navigate this software and what the assignment is (Health: Emotions). Please have your child explore and enjoy this great learning resource. Go ahead and finish Typing Club Jr. and if your child is interested I can already enroll her into Typing Club for second grade. Greetings, Ms. Stephenson Welcome back, my dear Kindys:
Two more weeks in the school year before summer break. It sure does not seem like summer right now. But what does summer look like anyway? Let's go back to Brainpop Jr. and find out. This new video will show you how to find the unit on summer and how to draw about it? Go ahead and click on my homepage above labeled "Resources". Then scroll down to Brainpop and login with ad12stargate and starpass. Here is last week's video again just in case you forgot how to navigate Brainpop. Have you finished Typing Club Jr? If not, go ahead and work on that as well to strengthen your fingers and improve your fine motor skills. Have fun, Ms. Stephenson Dear Students,
let's finish this school year with a fun coding project. I assigned to you in Google Classroom a Tynker course. Please watch this VIDEO!!! It will explain login and how to proceed. Also, do not forget the 30 min. in Typing Club. Next week you will reflect on your progress. Have a great week, Ms. Stephenson Dear Students:
A lot of you enjoy fun coding projects. I therefore assigned to you a course in Tynker called Dragon Spells: you will train a dragon to collect treasure. You go into Google classroom, click on lesson 1: Dragon Eggs (scroll down in Google Classroom) and begin coding. If you enjoy this activity you can move up through all lessons one through ten. By the end of this course, you can write simple algorithms using loops, conditionals, functions, and variables and know how to debug your code. Please watch this VIDEO first! And 30 min. typing club. Have fun! Ms. Stephenson Glad you have returned to my blog. I hope everyone is healthy and doing well emotionally.
Let's talk emotions. It is important to learn to recognize and vocalize our emotions. Everyone is going through ups and downs in these strange times, and also our littlest ones are sometimes struggling. Please help your child login to Brainpop Jr. Our username is: ad12stargate Password: starpass This video explains how to navigate this software and what the assignment is (Health: Emotions). Please have your child explore and enjoy. Happy Mother's Day from this mom ;-) It is Mother's Day Week and you will have the opportunity to create a digital Mother's Day card in Google Drawing.
Go to Google Classroom, watch the video and get creative. Second Graders, if you can put in text, an image and a new background that would be fabulous. Third Graders, you can probably do all of the above plus add shadows, borders, maybe even a video. Fourth Graders, on top of doing all of the above, think about adding hyperlinks and audio. And if this assignment is too easy for you, then opt for the other assignment which requires you to code a Mad Libs card in Tynker. Have fun!!! and celebrate your moms, Miss Stephenson Guess what, first graders. This week is Mother's Day. As much fun as it is being home with mom during this pandemic, she has been working extra hard for the family and now is a good time to show her your love and appreciation.
I have created a collection of fiction and non-fiction Mother's Day books in Epic Books and sent it to you. When you login, look at the mailbox beside your name and click on it. You will find books that read out loud to you but also craft books. Maybe one of the ideas inspires you! Make sure you finish Typing Club Jr. as well. If you are already done, you can use DanceMat Typing for more practice. Have a wonderful week. Ms. Stephenson Hello Fifth Graders:
Last week I have assigned to you a fun digital citizenship game called "Be Internet Awesome". You completed 2 worlds; this week you finish the other 2 worlds. The link and objectives are also in Google Classroom. Don't forget to mark the assignment "as done" when completed. I also assigned to you a Mother's Day Mad Libs coding project in Tynker which is optional, but might be a fun gift for your mom. The tutorial is included in the lesson and I added a file for your to prepare your wording. If you decide to do that, please share your project with me as well. And of course.... continue with 30 min/week Typing Club. Be well, see you next week! Ms. Stephenson Welcome back, second graders:
Nice job on the Google document. Now it is time to learn about Google Drawings. In Google Classroom I have posted a new assignment which will teach you how to use shapes to create a digital robot. This is a fun artsy project and you can be as creative as you like. Can't wait to look at your work! And please continue your keyboarding practice for 30 min. in Typing Club. Hugs to you from me, Ms. Stephenson Dear third graders:
It seems like a lot of you go straight into Google Classroom without reading my blog first. Many of you did not complete the second part of last week's assignment, in which you were instructed to add images and improve the layout of your slides. I reposted the same assignment this week and called it "Adding Images to Slideshow". I will also add a short clip instructing you how to apply the same transition to all slides. Please make sure you turn in the finished product by Friday. Thank you. And of course, please continue with keyboarding practice in typing club for a minimum of 30 min. this week. Sending you lots of hugs and greetings, Ms. Stephenson Hello my dear fourth graders:
You are doing great work in Google sheet and your Movie Expenses project turned out beautiful. I returned your work, please take the time to read my comments. This week, we will continue with Google sheets and I think you will enjoy the assignment in Google Classroom called "Math with Spreadsheets." Typing Club is of course the other assignment. Some of you have not logged in in quite a while! Remember, repetition is the key to success here. May this blog find you in good spirits and health. Miss you, Miss Stephenson ;-) Welcome back first graders:
Now, that most of you have created your at home accounts, we will go back to Epic Books and learn how to find books which match our interest and mark them under favorites to read at a later time. Please watch my tutorial first. In addition continue your keyboarding practice in Typing Club Jr. If you finish this and would like additional practice, please let me know and I can sign you up for Typing Club second grade. Have fun and I will see you again next week! Miss Stephenson Dear Kindys and Parents:
Glad you are back for another week of technology specials. This week, I have you work on the Shutterbugs website (also linked to my Kinders website) which teaches students how to describe movement and motion while visiting rare animals at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park. Please allow flash to run on this site. After giving the permission you will have to click the "play" button again. Watch this video before you get started to understand how you can earn all 16 certificates! Continue with Typing Club Jr. If you already finished the lessons and wish you practice keyboarding more, please send me an email and I can open up other classes. Big virtual hugs to all my little friends, Miss Stephenson Hello Fifth Graders: Good to have you back.
Please continue submitting your area guides here, even if you did not finish; I know it was very tricky especially without my support. But you worked so hard and long on this project, I would love for you to admire each other's. You can do that in Google Classroom where I shared the finished projects in a spreadsheet. Feel free to comment on other people's area guides. This week I have assigned to you a fun digital citizenship game called "Be Internet Awesome". Watch this 3 minute video for instructions. The link and objectives are also in Google Classroom. Don't forget to mark the assignment "as done" when completed. And of course.... continue with 30 min/week Typing Club. Be well, see you next week! Ms. Stephenson Wow, First Graders:
I am super impressed by your progress in Kodable. Some of you have even explored other worlds and challenges. Way to go! For this week, I have opened up functions in Smeeborg. Now this is a very advanced concept. Please watch this video first to understand what a function is. Then go ahead and try it out. Do not worry if you cannot solve the challenges, just give it your best try. In addition, please continue working on Typing Club Junior. Our goal is to finish all the lessons by the end of the trimester. Sending you many greetings and hugs from my house to yours! Miss Stephenson Wow, you Kindys are rockstars. I looked at your progress in conditionals and you have done a fabulous job.
OPTIONAL: If you enjoyed Kodable and would like to continue, I opened up the next lesson for you, called "Loopy Lagoon". A loop means you repeat certain commands (like in multiplication: go 4 x north and east. This is pretty advanced and you might need some help from a parent, but I have seen Kindys do it before individually. 1. Practice 15 min typing club 2x this week. Remember to login with password (your first name and last initial and the password is "stars"). If your child gets done with the lessons in Typing Club Jr., s/he can practice keyboarding in Abcya Cup Stacking 2. Abcya: Build a House Students drag and drop house parts from the menu to create a structure. Enjoy, until next week. Hugs, Miss Stephenson Hello Fourth Graders:
Welcome back to week 3 of remote learning. Please go to Google Classroom and open the assignment "Movie Expenses." You will learn more tricks and fun stuff for Google sheets. Thank you for all the great work you turned in last week. I looked at it and made comments; please take a minute to read them. You do not need to turn that assignment back in. Don't forget to practice typing club for another 30 minutes this week. I will look at your progress and remind those who have not forgotten! ;-) Please stay healthy and happy. I miss you, Miss Stephenson Welcome back second graders,
nice job on your Google documents. I returned them with comments; please take a moment to read them. DO NOT turn your document back in. You need to be able to edit it for this week's work. I posted a new assignment in Google Classroom called "Inserting an image into your Google document." Please follow the instructions in the video THEN turn the document back in. Continue to practice keyboarding. I will look at your progress this week in the software. I have not heard from a few people. Please email me if you are having technological difficulties. Sending the warmest greetings from my home to yours! I miss each and everyone of you! Miss Stephenson Dear Fünftklässler:
I enjoyed looking at your area guides. Thank you for submitting them in Google classroom. Some of you had issues with the drop-down rating scale; please go back into Applied Digital Skills and watch the video in lesson 2 "Make a Rating Scale" and fix your guide. We will finish our area guides this week; the last thing I am asking you to do is lesson 3 "Add interactive images." In eight steps you will learn how to create an interactive sidebar. For your guidance, I have included a sample Area Guide in Google classroom. Please look at it beforehand so that you know what your goal is. When you are done, please submit your area guide in the form that you will find below the sample area guide. We can then look at each other's and enjoy the hard work that you have produced. Don't forget: 30 minutes Typing Club!!!! Can't wait to see your final product. All the best, Miss Stephenson Hello Third graders:
Welcome back to part 2 of our Google slideshow. I enjoyed looking at your work and I returned it with some comments. Please go back into your Google Classroom, open the assignment "My First Google Slideshow", read the objectives part 2 and watch the video part 2. Please be aware that the video is rather long, but I will give you one extra week to finish it. Watch one part, complete the work, continue watching, etc. In addition continue with half an hour of typing (minimum; please practice 3x10 min, which is better than 1 x 30 minutes) This assignment is for two weeks, do not stress, give it your best. But have fun! Have a great week, I miss you! Ms. Stephenson Guten Morgen, Fünftklässler,
Now that everyone is at the same spot in the Area Guide, we can move forward to lesson 2. In that lesson you will learn how to create a drop-down rating scale and filters. Please complete all parts of lesson 2 and submit the link to your area guide in Google Classroom (I will post a video and instructions in Google Classroom tomorrow). In addition, please continue keyboarding in Typing Club for at LEAST 30 minutes this week. I will look at your progress in the software on Friday. If you have any questions please send me an email or ask a classmate. Hope all is well, Ms. Stephenson |
